Citrus Quilt Donated!

Our Citrus quilt will be going to a home in need soon!  Thank you to all of our members who helped us make this quilt a reality!

Our next challenge will be due in March 2013.  If you would like to participate we are making a quilt of blue stars.  Any star pattern you like and any size block is welcome.  We will find a way to incorporate these into one or many quilts depending on the volume of blocks received.

We hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday with their families.  We will see you all in January!

November Meeting Recap

We had a fun time catching up at the November meeting.

PJ quilted and bound our citrus charity quilt.

PJ included a fun detail in the quilting 'amqg 2012'.

We had 23 blocks turned in for the film noir charity quilt. Carol and Lisa each won a gift certificate.

We laid out the blocks and debated whether to sash them.  We perused the store for options and finally decided that no color or print would do. We we laid out 20 of the blocks in a light/dark pattern.  The last 3 will be on the back.

We discussed ideas for the next charity quilt and opted for stars in blue.  Any size or pattern star block with any shade of blue you want. Blue star blocks will be due in March 2013, so lots of time to get 1 or 5 finished!

Congrats to Krisa! The quilt she made for the Modern Quilt Showcase was featured in the Quilt Scene magazine.

No meeting in December; we will meet again on January 28, 2013.

Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season - we look forward to seeing you in the new year.

November 26th Meeting

Our guild decided as a group to extend the "Film Noir" block Challenge.  These blocks will be made into a quilt for the red cross.  As of the October meeting, I believe, we have over 17 blocks!  Let's see if we can collect more than we received for the citrus challenge (20!).  For this challenge we are doing: shades of gray, black, and white with small pops of color.  For every 12 1/2 inch unfinished block your name is entered to win a gift certificate to one of the local quilt shops!!  Carrie has two of these gift certificates to award.  So let's get sewing!

For the November meeting we will be laying out the challenge blocks and sharing our projects.  We will NOT be meeting in December, so join us for this last chance to show and tell for 2012! We will meet up again for a new challenge and more Bee blocks in January of 2013. We can't wait to see all the beautiful projects you have to share.  As always, new members are more than welcome to join us!  Modern  means different things to different people.  Sometimes, it is just the use of newer fabrics and patterns. You may be a modern quilter and not know it.

Join us for our November Meeting on Monday, Nov 26th at 6:30pm. We will be meeting at Seams Like Home in the nook by the batik fabrics.  Bring your finished 'Film Noir' blocks and items for show & tell.

Envelope Challenge #1 - "Citrus"

Our Anchorage Modern Quilt guild has decided to start some challenges.  We have dubbed them the Envelope Challenge. Every 3 months we will bring an envelope filled with the theme or fabric to hand out.  There are two ways to participate.

1.) You can create whatever you want that is inspired by the theme or colors provided and share it at one of the quilt guild meetings.

2.) You can create and submit a 12 1/2 inch block that will be made into a quilt.  Quilts made from challenge blocks will be donated to the local chapter of the Red Cross.

If you opt in to make a block for the charity you will be entered into a drawing for that months prize/prizes.  For each block you make you will get 1 entry into the drawing (3 blocks - 3 entries).  There is no cap on the number of entries you can make.

This month the theme is - "Citrus".  The envelope contained strips of the following colors:

If you wish to participate you have until the July 23, 2012 quilt guild meeting to submit your block/blocks or share your projects. The prize for this "Citrus" challenge is a Jelly Roll of solids.

We hope to see you all at the next meeting!
